Professor Sudipto Banerjee has been awarded the 2019 George W.Snedecor Award from the Committee of Presidents of Statistical Societies (COPSS). This award, established in 1976, honors an individual who was instrumental in the development of statistical theory in biometry. The award is for a noteworthy publication in biometry within three years of the date of the award. The award, given biennially (odd years) since 1991, is presented at the Joint Statistical Meetings.

Thomas R. Belin, professor in the Department of Biostatistics, has been conferred the honor of delivering the Lowell Reed Lectureship from the Applied Public Health Statistics Section of the APHA. This lectureship recognizes Professor Belin's distinguished contributions to the field of biostatistics.

Kate Crespi, professor-in-residence of biostatistics at the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, has been appointed by the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute as a member of its advisory panel on clinical trials. Learn more.

Professor Ron Brookmeyer and Professor of Epidemiology Roger Detels, Former Dean of the UCLA Fielding School of Public Health, gave a workshop on The Evaluation of HIV/AIDS Prevention and Intervention Programs in Hangzhou China in September 2017.  This is the 5th such workshop led by Professors Brookmeyer and Detels in each of the last 5 years in provinces throughout China. The workshops are by invitation of the national Chinese Centers for Disease Control in collaboration with its chief epidemiologist Zunyou Wu and focus on statistical and epidemiological methods. The Paul G. Allen Frontiers Group, a bioscience research initiative, awarded UCLA’s Steve Horvath an Allen Distinguished Investigator award. This award is given to researchers conducting pioneering research in epigenetics, aging and evolution. Each investigator is funded at $1.5 million over three years, totaling $7.5 million in funding.
