Department of Biostatistics

Student Employment

If you are seeking employment as a Special Reader (ASE) in the Department of Biostatistics, you should apply at least six weeks before the beginning of the quarter to ensure that you receive full consideration. To apply for ASE positions you must complete a Special Reader Application. Completed applications must be submitted to Roxy Naranjo in 51-254 CHS (Biostatistics Office) or via e-mail to rlnaranjo@ph.ucla.edu.

In addition, if you are a student here on visa status, the University campus requires that you take and pass the Test of Oral Proficiency (TOP) prior to taking a Special Reader position. Therefore, all Incoming Students on visa status should plan on taking the TOP exam as soon as possible so the requirement is cleared for future Special Reader positions that you might apply for. Please visit the TOP site for information on their scheduled TOP exams and sign-up procedures (you should plan on taking the exam in the quarter prior to your expected position).OID-TOP (TOP)

If you are seeking employment as a Graduate Student Researcher (GSR) in the Department of Biostatistics, you may apply by completing the GSR Application (Application For Part Time Employment) application form. Completed applications and resumes must be submitted to Roxy Naranjo in 51-254 CHS (Biostatistics Office) or via e-mail to rlnaranjo@ph.ucla.edu.

Both the ASE and GSR applications are kept by the department for only one quarter, so if you are seeking employment for consecutive quarters, please submit a new application for each quarter you wish to work.

You may also apply for SR and GSR positions in any other department on campus by contacting the department representative directly.

Both employment forms are ".PDF" documents. If you do not have a PDF viewer, you can download one for free here. Interactive PDFs only work on version 5 and up of Acrobat so please be sure to upgrade Adobe to the latest version before you submit the forms otherwise we will not be able to read your information.
