"Measuring the Process-Outcome Link in Health Services Research"
In observational studies of health care outcomes, it can be challenging to get an unbiased estimate of the process-outcome link. This link is the effect of delivering good care on the outcome of interest. This talk will examine the effect of process of care on the two-year change in functional status of a cohort of managed care patients with chronic disease in California. This analysis contrasts the use of regression, propensity scoring, and instrumental variables
methods to attempt to adjust for both measured and unmeasured patient disease severity and estimate the process-outcome link.
